Having just discovered that someone actually reads this crap, I’ve been shamed into making a new post, my first in weeks, if not months.

Firstly, I did manage to get my MP3OTW Podcast feed working properly (turns out that iPodder [...] is a contrary bastard and doesn’t always download new casts). As soon as I perfected my technique, Dum went and migrated his [...] MP3OTW page to a MySQL backend, thus enabling him to create his own podcast [...] and rendering my efforts pointless. It wasn’t a complete waste though, as I now know how it’s done and might implement a similar feature on this site. Eventually. Some time. Possibly after my next post.

That kinda brings me to what I have mostly been listening to lately, which is mash-ups (I’m so hip and trendy, me). I’ve always found mash-ups to be a little hit and miss (for every Saturday vs. Billie Jean, there’s about 60 Smells Like Teen Booty, but a few weeks ago I chanced upon Beatmixed [...], DJ Matt Hines’ personal blog. He seems to be a stalwart of the San Francisco DJ scene and a proponent of the mash-up. There are links to other mash-up producers, some of which are really good (DJ Zebra [...] has a fantastic mix of Closer by Nine Inch Nails and Come Together by The Beatles). That’s where I discovered Go Home Productions [...] a.k.a Mark Vidler. Vidler has produced some of the most consistently good mash-ups I’ve heard. Sexual High (Marvin Gaye/Radiohead), Alive & Nellified (Nelly/The Mooney Suzuki) and Making Plans for Vinyl (Tweet/XTC) are personal favourites, but there’s plenty of other quality stuff there. The 14 minute Beatles mix is well worth downloading as well. Unfortunately some of the tracks have been taken offline, but you can probably get it from the P2P networks (or mail me, cos I managed to get them all before Mark took them down).

Another worthy site that I discovered through Beatmixed is Solcofn’s [...]. He’s got loads of really long mixes up there, one of which includes the aforementioned Come Closer mix by DJ Zebra, which is hard to find these days (I think I have it somewhere, but I’m not sure…).

Finally, I came across (again through Beatmixed) a couple of remix projects that have taken albums by Primal Scream [...], Chemical Brothers [...] and Prodigy [...] and remixed them in their entirety.
