Flash Banner
Tuesday, April 24th, 2007You may or may not have noticed that I’ve added a photo banner type thing to the header of my page*. It’s my second foray into the world of Flash/Actionscript and the Flickr API. Not bad, eh?
There are a few things that I’d like to add and I know that there are better ways to do some of the things that I’ve done in the code but I like it nonetheless. It uses Kelvin Luck’s Flashr wrapper for the Flickr API to do some of what it does. It also uses some sticky-back plastic and very dodgy scripting.
On the plus side, I’ve plugged in an XML-based config file so it should be fairly easy to package it up and distribute it for other people to use without them needing to edit the actionscript stuff. I do need to figure out whether or not the width can be changed easily (or if you can make it vertical instead of horizontal) since not everyone’s website is based on an 860 pixel centre column.
*It can take a while for the images to load, so if all you see is a black bar with some text just give it a while longer. On the other hand, you could try turning your adblock software down a notch.
